Take CanTEST
Some colleges or universities demand that students who don’t have the required IELTS score for Canada take the CanTEST after enrolling in college.
English as a Second Language Program (ESL)
Before enrolling in postgraduate programmes, a student who is unable to pass the CanTEST must enrol in an ESL (English as a Second Language) programme at St. Clair College of English.
Submit to the MIA
There are requirements for students with an IELTS score of 5.5 to demonstrate their English language ability through paperwork or a certificate from a previous university saying that English was not required for the course. However, it is advised that you apply as soon as possible for a course or certification with a university.

Minimum IELTS Group Requirements for Canada
To obtain a study visa to Canada, you will need to have at least 5.5 in each of the four groups in IELTS and a total score of at least 6.0 and above for undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Canada. Here are the requirements of the IELTS group for different programs in Canada:
- A minimum of 6.0 in each group and a total of 6.5 and above for graduate courses
- General IELTS score of 7.0 and in each group for engineering, teaching, and learning courses

- For undergraduate programs: General grade of at least 6.5 and IELTS of at least 6.0.
- For law courses at the University of Toronto: a general grade of 7.0 and an IELTS degree of no less than 6.5.
- For postgraduate and doctoral programs: general grade of 6.5 and IELTS level of not less than 6.0.
